Young's Performance in "Purlie Victorious" Earns Acclaim
New York, NY - Kara Young has made history as the first Black actor to receive three Tony Award nominations in three consecutive years.
Young's latest nomination comes for her performance in "Purlie Victorious," a revival of the classic play by Ossie Davis. She is nominated in the category of Best Featured Actress in a Play.
Young's previous Tony Award nominations were for her performances in "Clydes" and "The Lyons." She won a Tony Award for her role in "The Lyons" in 2013.
In an interview with Playbill, Young said that she is "honored and humbled" by her Tony Award nomination. She also said that she is grateful for the opportunity to tell the story of "Purlie Victorious."
"This play is such an American masterpiece of text," Young said. "It's a story that is still relevant today, and I'm so proud to be a part of it."
