Chelsea Transfer News: Cherki Deal Set to Fall Through

PSG Enter the Race for Lyon Starlet

Chelsea's Hopes of Signing Cherki Dwindling

Chelsea's pursuit of Lyon midfielder Rayan Cherki appears to be on the verge of collapse, with Paris Saint-Germain now poised to swoop in and secure his signature. The French giants are reportedly preparing an offer that would outbid Chelsea's bid, leaving the Blues short-handed in their quest to add creativity to their midfield.

Cherki, 19, has long been on Chelsea's radar, and the club reportedly held talks with Lyon owner John Textor over a potential deal. However, PSG's interest has complicated matters, and the Ligue 1 champions are now considered the favorites to land the highly-rated playmaker.

Chelsea's transfer window has been relatively quiet, with their only major signing being the arrival of midfielder Moises Caicedo from Brighton. They are also in the market for a new attacker to replace the departed Romelu Lukaku, but their hopes of bringing Cherki to Stamford Bridge now seem remote.

The news of PSG's pursuit of Cherki will come as a blow to Chelsea manager Graham Potter, who has been keen to add more creativity to his squad. The club has also been linked with a move for Brighton midfielder Leandro Trossard, but it remains to be seen if they can secure his services before the transfer window closes.

With time running out, Chelsea will need to act quickly if they want to strengthen their squad before the start of the season. The arrival of Cherki would have been a major coup, but it appears increasingly likely that he will continue his career in Paris instead.
